Dachshund Shark Vest for Playful Pups

How to measure your dachshund:

• Back length: from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.
• Chest: around the widest part, just behind the front legs.
• Neck: around the base of the neck, where the collar sits.

Between two sizes? Choose the larger one for sweaters, hoodies and coats.

How to Choose the Right Size and Measure Your Dachshund

Ensuring the perfect fit for your dachshund's clothing is essential for their comfort and mobility. Dachshunds have a unique body shape—with long backs and deep chests—so accurate measurements are crucial. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you measure your dachshund and choose the right size.

1. Gather Your Tools

• Flexible Measuring Tape: A soft tape measure is ideal for getting accurate measurements.
• Assistant (Optional): Someone to help keep your dachshund still can make the process easier.
• Treats: To reward your dachshund for cooperating.

2. Take Accurate Measurements

Tip: Measure your dachshund while they are standing on all fours for the most accurate results.

a. Neck Circumference

• How to Measure: Wrap the measuring tape around the base of your dachshund's neck where the collar normally sits.
• Ensure: The tape is snug but not tight. You should be able to fit one finger between the tape and the neck.
• Record: Write down the measurement in inches or centimeters.

b. Chest Girth (Bust)

• How to Measure: Place the tape measure around the widest part of your dachshund's chest, just behind the front legs.
• Ensure: The tape is level and snug without compressing the fur.
• Record: Note this measurement carefully, as the chest girth is the most critical for a good fit.

c. Back Length

• How to Measure: Measure from the base of the neck (where the collar sits) along the spine to the base of the tail.
• Ensure: Your dachshund is standing straight, and the tape follows the natural curve of the back.
• Record: This measurement determines the length of the garment.

3. Refer to the Size Chart

• Match Measurements: Compare your dachshund's measurements to our size chart.
• Size Selection: Choose the size where your dog's measurements are equal to or less than the listed dimensions.
• Example: If your dachshund's chest girth is 17 inches, and size M has a chest girth of up to 17 inches, size M would be appropriate.
• Between Sizes: If your dachshund's measurements are between sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size for comfort.

4. Consider the Fit

• Snug vs. Loose: Decide if you prefer a snug fit or a bit of extra room.
• Type of Clothing:
• Stretchy Fabrics: Can allow for a closer fit.
• Non-Stretch Fabrics: May require a bit more room.
• Layering: If you plan to layer clothing, consider sizing up.

5. Additional Tips

• Measure Twice: To ensure accuracy, measure your dachshund twice.
• Comfort is Key: A well-fitted garment shouldn't restrict movement or cause discomfort.
• Check for Adjustability: Some clothing items have adjustable features like straps or elastic bands for a better fit.
• Growth Spurts: For puppies, consider their growth when selecting a size.
